Our customer owned a vintage Ercol Windsor coffee table that had seen better days. The old varnish was very worn in places and had sticky areas that spoilt the look and feel of this classic piece.
This Ercol range was made from solid elm with a beech underframe. As it is solid wood we opted to sand the surface (stripping varnish off is advisable when dealing with veneer, which is more fragile).
Once fully sanded by machine and hand, the table was coated in a dark tinted hardwax oil in a blended shade chosen by the customer to match their other vintage pieces.
“[Tablemaker] restored an Ercol coffee table that was in very bad condition with a deep scratch and big chunk out the side. [They] mixed a bespoke stain to match other furniture in the room and the end result is absolutely stunning. Fast and very reasonably priced. It’s a joy to work with a true craftsman who takes such pride in his work” – Amelia, Google Review, 2022
