Premium Solid Oak Dining Tables Designed and Made in the UK
What makes a high quality dining table and where can I find custom options in the UK?
A high quality wooden dining table needs to combine lasting strength with practical design and visual appeal. Many people in the UK want more than a standard dining table set or style found in chain stores.
At Tablemaker, we make solid wood dining tables to order in our London workshop. This means you choose the size, wood tone, finish and even the edge shape. Our oak dining tables are designed with real use in mind, whether it is everyday dining, working from home or hosting family and friends. They are finished with hardwax oil for durability, which makes them ideal as a long-term dining room table and they can be refinished over time.

Our Range of Solid Oak Dining Tables
All our tables are made from full stave solid oak, not veneer. The timber we use is strong, attractive and long lasting. Unlike many mass market dining tables, you can sand and re-oil our tables to keep them looking fresh over the years. Every table includes straightening bars underneath which help the wood stay flat and avoid warping.
Tables are made to exact measurements. That means if you need a 6 seater dining table at 145 centimetres with the right amount of clearance, that is what we build. Edge profiles can be square, rounded or chamfered depending on the design, giving you the same flexibility you’d expect from a bespoke dining table set.
ATO 55 Dining Table (Best Seller)
Designed as a compact and versatile piece, the ATO 55 is ideal for modern living. It suits both small dining areas and home offices. Featuring square tapered legs and a slimline top, it can be made in widths from 40 to 100 centimetres and lengths from 75 to 190 centimetres. The clear hardwax oil finish brings out the natural grain of the oak. You can also request a version in 30 millimetres thick oak or clear knotless pine.
Element 57 Dining Table (Popular)
This model has a clean lined silhouette with sharp angles and a contemporary feel. Suitable for open plan kitchens or small dining areas, Element 57 is available in various lengths and widths and supports comfortable seating for four to six people. The style pairs well with Scandinavian or minimalist interiors.
Stadium 300 Dining Table
(For Large Families)
If you prefer a shape with softer lines, the Stadium 300 combines curved ends with an elongated format. It works well in wide rooms and open spaces and is particularly suited to seating six to eight diners without anyone stuck in a corner. It has a flowing look and practical leg spacing for flexible chair placement.
Box 85 Dining Table (Trending)
This is a practical choice with strong square lines and block legs. The inset leg design maximises legroom and allows for comfortable seating all round. It is available in larger sizes and suits everyday use as well as special occasions. The design is solid and reassuring, ideal for families.
Record 65 Round Dining Table
(For Social People)
This round table promotes easy conversation and a sense of equality at the table. It is a great solution for tighter spaces and can be made in various diameters to suit your needs. You can also ask us about custom diameter options if your space requires a specific footprint.
Radius 70 Dining Table
(Versatile)
With rounded corners and balanced proportions, the Radius 70 works as a multi use table. It is popular for work and dining spaces and has a gentle, approachable look. The edges are softened for comfort and safety, making it a popular choice for households with young children.
Wing 200 Dining Table (Refined)
This table has a lean look with subtle tapering to the legs. The inward slant of the legs keeps them out of the way while sitting and makes the table feel lighter in design. It is a refined option with practical benefits for room flow and accessibility.
Can I customise a dining table to suit my space?
Yes. Every order begins with your required size and style. We do not limit you to preset dimensions. You can select the length, width, height and finish that fits your room, your use and your preferences—perfect for those looking for a small dining table, a round dining table, or even a 10 seater dining table for larger gatherings.
Read our guide on how to customise your table for full details.
Dimensions to Match Your Needs
Our tables can be built in 1cm increments. This gives you freedom to match alcoves, lighting, or other furniture. We also help you choose the best leg placement for maximum seating without crowding—ideal for a dining table and bench set or a dining table and 6 chairs.
Tabletop Thickness and Edge Profile
The standard thickness is 24mm but we also offer 30mm or can create a false edge to mimic thicker wood. Edge styles include square, rounded and bevelled options. These details can change the feel of the table from formal to relaxed, whether you’re choosing a modern dining table or something with a more rustic edge like a farmhouse dining table.
Colours and Finishes
Our standard finish is a clear satin hardwax oil that protects and enhances the oak surface. We also offer warm and dark tints. For legs, you can choose from over 20 colour sprays or ask for custom finishes using paint brands like Farrow and Ball. If you prefer to paint the legs yourself, we can supply them sanded and ready—ideal if you’re styling your own wooden dining table and chairs set.
Timber Options
Most tables are made in solid oak. We also work in walnut, ash, beech or pine on request. These are useful if you are matching other furniture or creating a different visual effect—especially for customers interested in a solid wood dining table, a marble dining table alternative, or coordinating a dining room table with bench and chairs.
Each piece can be made to your preferred length, width and height before checkout. These are built to order dining tables, not held in stock.
How do I choose the right table size for my room?
Choosing the right size depends on how many people you want to seat, how much room you have around the dining table, and the size of your chairs. So whether you’re buying a dining table and chairs set, a dining table for 6, or a round dining table for 4.
Space Per Person
Allow a minimum of 50cm width per person. Larger chairs or people may need more. For six people, allow a minimum of 150cm between the legs on the long side. Consider extra room at the ends for additional diners. This applies across various styles, from extendable dining tables to small dining table sets for tighter spaces.
Leg Positioning
Different dining table designs have legs placed differently. Inset legs, such as on Box 85 or Wing 200, may reduce side seating but offer better end access. Always factor this into your plan—especially if you’re considering a dining table with bench or a corner dining table setup.
Table Width and Room to Move
If you want someone to sit at the end, the table should be at least 75 to 80cm wide. If the legs are inset, add extra. Narrower tables may make it harder to place dishes or create comfortable knee space. This is particularly relevant when choosing a solid oak dining table or a rectangular dining table where proportion matters.

How do I look after a solid oak dining table?
We regularly take orders for custom size or one-off tables. If you need a dining table to match another piece, or a desk to fit a specific room, we can make it to your requirements—whether it’s a round dining table, a 6 seater dining table, or something more compact like a small dining table for 2.
Adjust a Current Table Design
We can change the dimensions, top thickness, leg placement or finish on any of our existing designs. This works well for people who like a particular style but need a size we do not list—perfect if you’re after an extendable dining table, a dining table and bench set, or a corner dining table to suit your layout.
Commission a Full Custom Build
You can send a drawing, sketch or list of dimensions and we will quote to make it from scratch. That includes choosing the leg design, edge profile, timber type and finish—ideal for creating a solid wood dining table in oak, walnut or ash, or even a dining room table and chairs set with matching finishes. We will confirm build method, lead time and delivery.
