A custom table is one designed and built specifically to match your room layout, your practical use, and your visual preference. At Tablemaker, we construct solid wood tables using full stave hardwood table tops, joinery that holds up over time, and finishing options that are safe, durable and natural. Every custom dining table is made to order in our London workshop, down to the last centimetre, ensuring it fits the way you live or work.

What sizes and shapes are available?

We make custom dining tables and custom desk table tops in lengths ranging from 35 centimetres to 280 centimetres and widths up to 115 centimetres. These can be set at any working or dining height and shaped as rectangles, squares, circles or L-shaped formats. We work to your measurements using precision saws, and the dimensions are confirmed to the millimetre for every custom made dining table.

Table top thickness options include 20, 30 and 40 millimetres. Edge profiles are available as square, rounded, bevelled or chamfered to suit both the design and the intended use. For example, rounded edges are popular in family homes, while custom desks benefit from radiused front edges for comfort. We also produce custom hardwood table tops and custom live edge dining tables, depending on your preference for natural or finished edges.

What types of timber are available?

Custom made oak tables are one of our most requested pieces, and solid oak is our primary material because of its strength, natural resistance to wear, and warm visual texture. We also build custom dining tables and custom desks in ash, walnut, beech, pine and birch plywood. Timber boards are chosen for colour consistency and grain structure. All boards are joined with edge glue and clamps to form a full stave top, avoiding short or finger jointed sections—ideal for producing long-lasting custom hardwood table tops.

Legs are constructed from matching wood or fabricated in powder-coated steel, depending on the design. All parts are assembled using mechanical fasteners and structural joinery such as mortise and tenon joints or concealed pocket holes. This approach ensures that each custom built dining table or custom live edge table maintains both form and function for years to come.

What finishes can you choose?

We offer a range of finishes based on hardwax oils, which are breathable, food safe, and allow for refinishing later without sanding to bare wood. You can choose from clear oil, lightly pigmented tones or custom mixed tints.

All finishes are:

Low volatile organic compound (VOC)

Safe for homes and commercial use

Easy to reapply when needed

Straightening bars can be added to larger tables. These are fitted to the underside using steel or aluminium and are fixed with screws, not glue, so they can be removed for maintenance. These help minimise cupping and movement over time.

How Do Custom Features Add Value?

How long does it take?

Standard lead time for a custom piece is two to four weeks from confirmation. This includes all cutting, building, oiling and packaging. Local delivery is available and national delivery can be arranged using couriers familiar with furniture handling.

Prices vary depending on timber type, size and any special adjustments. As a guide:

Small side tables start from £300

Dining tables begin from £600

Larger custom desks or commercial builds are quoted on request

We quote per job and include finish, fittings and delivery in the final total. There are no added costs for simple adjustments.

Yes. We offer both wood samples and finish swatches which can be ordered directly from our Samples page. They’re a great way to see how each option looks in your space, under your lighting.

10. Can I return or cancel a custom table?

Because our tables are made to your specifications, they are not eligible for return unless faulty. We always send order confirmations with measurements and options for your approval before we start, so make sure to check everything carefully.
